DEVELOPING STUDENT LEADERS AND PROMOTING EMPATHY

OUR SUMMARY

Belonging protects against Educational Displacement by developing student leaders who promote belonging and empathy in their communities. All participants will engage in a five-hour course led by Dr. Amra Sabic-El-Rayess that introduces them to the key concepts of Educational Displacement and strategies to prevent it from occurring in their schools and communities. Following the training, students participate in one of two pathways. See here for more information on each student experience.

KEY FEATURES OF PROJECT BELONGING

  • The project is free for the first year of its launch, with the first program cohort beginning in Fall 2023.

  • Project Belonging is hosted by Teachers College, Columbia University. Every student who participates and completes the training will receive a certificate of participation from Teachers College.

  • Our program was awarded an Innovation Grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3).
